The Curiosity Equation.
“Die Empty, leave nothing on the table of life.”
I recently returned from Cape Town, where my company, The Guest List Agency, was actively engaged in exciting activations for our client, Diageo. It was an exhilarating weekend that left me somewhat exhausted. However, after spending a couple of years refining what I offer to the world and exploring various aspects of life, I'm now ready to embrace my passion for writing once again, aiming to bring all my experiences together.
A Shift in Perspective
Society often encourages us to specialize, pushing us to follow a predetermined path for the sake of making a living. While this approach is understandable, it overlooks the vast possibilities available to us today. We must remember that centuries ago, when many of the conventions we follow were established, technology was either limited or nonexistent. This restricted our professional choices, making us products of our environment, era, family background, race, and available technology. In those times, choosing a specialization was crucial.
The Early Days of Exploration
After completing my Economics degree, I felt an insatiable hunger and curiosity that drove me to express myself. This led me to explore various fields, testing my approach as I mentioned earlier. I experienced both financial success and setbacks in some ventures, which, albeit painful, imparted a valuable lesson I have only begun to comprehend in recent years—the gift of insight.
The Power of Curiosity and Vision
“Talent hits a target that others cannot hit, but genius hits a target that others cannot see.” It’s futile to be informed about countless opportunities if you lack the vision to recognize them. One cannot aim for what is unseen, nor believe in what cannot be aimed for, highlighting how blindness can manifest both physically and mentally.
Embracing Multiple Directions
Everything I've had the courage to explore has not gone to waste; it has led me to a point where I can confidently navigate various paths with minimal effort. This realization has led me to this equation:
Curiosity + Effort = Mind Retention.
The Importance of Curiosity in Learning
In school, we were taught that effort is essential for achievement. But how much of what we learned do we truly remember? It seems that our minds retain knowledge best when we are curious enough to invest effort. This explains why we excelled in subjects that fascinated us. The mind tends to keep short-term memories of effort but integrates curiosity and effort into long-term memory, making it a part of who we are.
My Vision for 2026
This year, I aim to unify all I have gathered and channel it cohesively. Alongside expanding my agency's strategies, I plan to launch a TV show that combines above-the-line and below-the-line marketing. I will write another book, debut an international fashion show, and delve deeper into Economics as an advisor to government agencies and private sector. Additionally, I will grow my speaking career and launch a YouTube channel to share my insights on Mindset, Business and the future of African economies in a global context.
I encourage you to reflect on your own journey in 2026. Identify what sparks your curiosity and put effort behind it, regardless of whether others notice, much like I am doing now by writing into the void.
Your advantage lies more in the intersections of your interests than in mere expertise. Here’s to a fantastic 2026!
